Youth Service Learning in Action: Serving Communities at the Thai–Myanmar Border

Starspur’s Youth Service Learning (YSL) Program takes its next bold step. On 24 April 2026, we joined hands with Didi Devamala to stand with Baan Unrak’s Refugee Relief operation at the Thai-Myanmar border. What started as a token gesture of support will now become the heart of our cross-border YSL journey for 2025/26, bringing youth volunteers face-to-face with real impact for displaced families with guidance from Baan Unrak’s founder, Didi Devamala.

Through this effort, essential food supplies, including rice and corn, were distributed to 215 families, with continued distribution extending into the following day.

While the numbers reflect impact, the deeper value of this initiative lies in its learning journey. For the youth of Baan Unrak, this was not just an act of giving, but an opportunity to learn through direct participation. Under Didi’s guidance and example of selfless service, young individuals experienced what it truly means to serve with humility and purpose.

Starspur’s involvement in this outreach reflects a growing commitment to experiential learning, where service is not taught in theory, but lived through action.

By supporting such initiatives and working alongside trusted partners, the Youth Service Learning Programme seeks to nurture individuals who can one day become the many helping hands their communities need.

We are deeply grateful to Didi Devamala, the Baan Unrak community, and their longstanding supporters for opening this opportunity to learn from their dedication and seamless execution of service. Their work continues to inspire how meaningful impact can be sustained through consistency and care.

Looking ahead, Starspur will continue to identify opportunities for cross-border engagement as part of the YSL Programme. Insights, documentation, and youth reflections from this experience will help shape future learning modules, strengthening the bridge between service and personal growth.

At its heart, this initiative reflects Starspur’s vision and mission to cultivate connections, empower through service, and build a better world for all. Through each shared effort, we move closer to a future where compassion is not only felt, but practiced and passed forward.
