Sheltering Sacred Cow: A Community Effort at Forest Sivan Temple (India)

Nestled in the serene hills of Andhra Pradesh, the Forest Sivan Temple stands as a peaceful retreat, managed by a lone priest and his family. The temple grounds are also home to 13 desi cows, which provide a modest source of income through milk and dung sales to the surrounding community.

However, these cows have been exposed to the elements, especially during the intense monsoon season, due to the absence of a proper cowshed roof.

On September 5th, 2024, as part of the Grow a Village initiative, volunteers from Starspur Enterprise arrived at the temple with a mission: to build a sturdy roof for the cowshed and ensure the cows are well-protected from the weather.

The volunteers, experienced in construction, evaluated the site and began laying the groundwork for a safe and comfortable shelter.

The project has been generously funded by donors who recognise the importance of supporting the temple’s sustainability efforts. A proper cowshed will not only shield the cows from harsh weather but also help increase milk production, benefiting the entire village.

The construction is expected to be completed by October 2024. This inspiring project brings the community together, fostering a sense of unity and care for these sacred animals. Stay tuned for updates!
